Ripening

21 December 2010
Ripening

The sun-sweetened berry
        waits through Winter.
She takes on Nature’s brutality
        of disregard and discontentment.

Spring arrives, and She,
        waits on the vine of her youth.
Do you see the sun as it swallows Her?

She blooms quietly and sweetly---ripening, growing, living, breathing in the universe.
The fullness of Her is not yet mature.
She still lacks that engulfing flavor;
        the sweetness that leaves you wanting more.

She waits with the Sun---waiting, ripening.

The thorns of her thoughts
        keep passers-on-by.
They dare not touch the protective blooming berry,
        and nor do they wait!

They move on to higher ground settling for
        adequate apples and oranges.

She is not plain. She is full.
And when you taste Her on your tongue
        There is no turning back.

She will steal your senses;
        And treat you to her sun-ripened goodness, but
        Only when she is ready to be plucked.
